EFT
What is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) ?
EFT
(Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a gentle and highly effective "energy psychology" that helps people
achieve freedom from the emotional imbalances that have created problems in their lives, by clearing specific issues
blocking their emotional happiness or personal growth. It is based on the premise that all negative emotions are the
result of a disruption in the body’s energy system. EFT is a form of acupuncture without the use of needles
where certain energy meridians are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips. It is a very successful tool for reducing or eliminating procrastination, anxieties,
addictions, stress, fears, trauma and much more.
How does EFT work?
Using EFT involves determining the issue you want to address and
then tapping on specific acupressure points with your fingers. EFT works through the power of energy meridians and the
tapping serves to release the blockages that are created when a person becomes involved in an emotionally disturbing circumstance.
When this blockage is released, the emotions come into balance. For example if you had a traumatic experience in the
past which is negatively influencing your life and stopping you from living the life you always wanted to, you would
be asked to think about that situation and notice how you feel. However, you do not have to relive this traumatic
experience but you just have to be aware that the negative feeling is there. You are then shown which points to tap,
and what words to say as you do so. Having done that you are then asked to think about that situation
again and check how you feel. You will normally notice a significant reduction in the intensity of the feeling. If it's
not completely eliminated then the EFT process is repeated until full balance is restored.
What can you use EFT for?
With EFT most energetic imbalances may be partially or completely cleared within a short period of time.
Others may be relieved through repetition of the process. Some examples of issues that have been successfully addressed
using EFT include:
- Emotional issues - Addictions - Fears and phobias - Emotional traumas
- Depression - Anger - Stress -
Self-esteem and confidence issues - Panic and anxiety
What is the origin of EFT?
The Emotional Freedom Techniques concept was developed in the US in the 1990’s by Gary Craig.
EFT originated from TFT (Thought Field Therapy), which was discovered by the psychologist Roger Callahan. While Roger
Callahan developed the basic concept and structure, Gary Craig refined it and made it accessible to everyone. EFT
roots are in acupuncture, kinesiology and psychology.
